If I had known the way the evening would turn out, I would not have gone on a blind date with an atheist. But in many ways that would have been a shame, because my attempt at romance with a former Catholic turned aggressive secularist probably taught me more about myself than anything else that happened to me in I had been single for a while when, during a brief flurry on a dating site, I began chatting with a guy who just happened to have recently renounced his entire belief system. We struck up a spirited conversation based around my continued faith and his utter despair at everything he once held sacred. When I walked into the restaurant, I was delighted to find a handsome, well-dressed man sitting waiting for me. But after a few initial pleasantries, he got stuck in. He was as intrigued by me as I was by him. Like most secularists I have met, my date was more dogmatic than any religionist and he became truly animated as he ranted about the failings of the Church. It turned out that he had rejected his former faith because it had simply not delivered. Ah, say no more, I thought.

The starting point for a Christian understanding of human sexuality is the belief that all humans are made ‘in the image of God’. The creation story in Genesis shows how male and females are intimately connected to each other:. This story suggests that man and woman unite to become complete. St Paul reminds Christians that: Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God? You are not your own; you were bought with a price.
Scott and I were hanging at an Oktoberfest tent party at the local German bar, doing what you do at such things. We came across Marie, a woman I had met through my little sister. I introduced her to Scott and they hit it off, so I decided to catch up with some other friends and let them continue to talk. We had a laugh and moved on. In fact, despite differing greatly in our spiritual and religious beliefs, I consider Scott to be one of my best friends. Our unlikely friendship has made me think that more Christians and atheists should find each other — for their own good and for the greater good.
Scott and I met while we both attended the public high school in town. We hit it off because we had similar personalities and interests, namely Christian rock music and Nintendo. Ask John: Can a Christian and atheist be happily married?
We should all be ready and willing to settle, because nobody is going to be perfect. But we’re also entitled to a few deal-breakers. On the subject of good, available men, single women in their thirties don’t need to be reminded that the pickings are slim. Many of us have accepted that if we want to have a child with a partner — while our clocks are ticking like the bells of Westminster Abbey — we may have to compromise instead of waiting around for the elusive Mr. But just how much settling is too much?

Hello! I came across this website while looking for help regarding interfaith dating. I am a Catholic who has been brought up in a strict Catholic.
When I was a kid, my mother and I joined a very large “non-denominational” Christian Church, one of the earliest versions of the Mega Churches that exist today. It was a very happy place. I was in the children’s choir, the community was lovely, and we sang from a song book with drawings of long-haired hippies. Everything was great until politics began to creep in and the church began hosting speakers like Jerry Falwell, the ultraconservative pastor and political pundit.
My liberal feminist mother couldn’t take it and we switched to a progressive Methodist church instead, a return to her childhood religious roots. While I don’t feel like I had a particularly religious upbringing, I clearly did. As an adult, I’d place my hand on the outside of the plane while boarding and pray that the “sacred blood of our Lord Jesus Christ” would protect the plane and passengers — and I believed with my whole heart that it would work since I haven’t been involved in a plane crash, I guess it did.
Eventually, I stopped being a Christian. I flirted with Tarot Cards and Paganism. I dumped the idea of a male God and instead prayed to the pagan concept of the Goddess for years. I abandoned all thoughts of God in my twenties, until it became clear that I needed to be sober. Recovery meetings are spiritual not religious and at that point I settled on a God-centric but non-Christian spirituality that worked perfectly for me.
Then some bad things happened in my life — infertility and third trimester pregnancy loss — and God and I broke up for a while. But in my grief I found myself drifting into another liberal Methodist Church, and I found solace there for many years.
